Hi.
I’m Eva, and apparently I have a food blog now.
This feels slightly ridiculous to write, because for years my relationship with food has mostly consisted of cooking too much, feeding people, changing recipes halfway through, and occasionally standing in front of the oven wondering whether I’ve made a terrible mistake.
So naturally, the next logical step was to put all of that on the internet.
I’m Danish-Ukrainian, deaf, currently living in France with my boyfriend, and I love food probably more than is reasonable.
Cooking has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I first really learned in the kitchen with my grandmother. Baking was our thing. Flour everywhere, butter that was never quite soft enough, bowls I absolutely believed I was helping to clean by licking them, and recipes that were somehow both very precise and completely based on instinct.
She taught me how to make cakes and pastries, yes.
But more importantly, she taught me how to cook. How to taste. How to adjust. How to look at what you have and make something good out of it. How food can say things when you don’t quite know how to say them yourself.
And somewhere along the way, I became completely obsessed.
Not only with baking. With all of it.
Soups, pasta, bread, salads, things that need three hours, things that need fifteen minutes, Danish food, Ukrainian food, French food I’m still discovering, and those dinners that begin with:

Sometimes the plan works.
Sometimes we order pizza.
Both outcomes are valid.
Why this blog?
Mostly because I wanted somewhere to keep all of it.
The recipes I make again and again.
The ones from my family.
The things I discover.
The experiments that somehow become favourites.
And probably a few experiments that should have remained private matters between me and the saucepan.
But I also wanted this space to feel like more than a collection of ingredients and cooking times.
So you’ll occasionally find pieces of my life here too. I’m deaf, and that obviously affects the way I move through the world. Sometimes in important ways, sometimes in annoying ways, sometimes in genuinely funny ways. It affects cooking too, occasionally.
I rely a lot on sight, texture and touch in the kitchen. I like timers that flash. I watch things cook. I touch dough far too often. And I have absolutely no idea whether your blender is making a concerning noise, so please do not ask me.
I use Danish Sign Language and BSL, and since moving to France I’ve also started learning LSF.
Very slowly.
My hands currently know several ways to say food and far fewer useful things about French administration.
Priorities.
What you’ll find here
There will be sweet things.
Definitely.
But this is not just a baking blog.
There’ll be proper dinners, quick lunches, comfort food, bread, soups, vegetables, recipes from home, recipes inspired by France, things my boyfriend approves of, and things he looks at with visible concern.
I’ll try to make every recipe clear and actually useful.
Measurements that make sense.
Instructions that don’t assume you can read my mind.
And enough notes that you know what can go wrong before you personally discover it at 9:40 p.m. on a Tuesday.
I cannot promise perfection. In fact, I can confidently promise the opposite.
This is a kitchen where things spill. Cakes crack. Sauces occasionally become too thick. I forget ingredients on the counter. And sometimes dinner looks terrible and tastes fantastic.
That’s food.
That’s life.
And I think both are more interesting when they’re a little imperfect.
So, welcome
If you’re here for the recipes, wonderful.
If you stay for the stories, even better.
If you’re here because you also believe butter is a personality trait, we’re probably going to get along.
Thank you for being here at the very beginning.
I have no idea what I’m doing.
Which, historically, has never stopped me before.
Now I should probably go cook something.
xo,
Eva ♥️
Good food, warm stories, questionable decisions.
